Receiving Your Plants

Receiving Your Plant(s)

Never ordered a bare root plant before? No problem! It is not as scary as it sounds, in fact it is quite easy!

The first thing you'll see when you open a package from us, will be a packing paper wrapped plant. The plant will have a bag around its roots.

STEP 1: To open the bag around the roots, simply twist the twist-tie that is wrapped around it. (Or untie the waxed twine)

STEP 2: Now carefully unwrap the damp paper towel that covers the roots of your plant.  Alternatively you can place the paper towel wrapped roots in a bowl of water and unwrap the roots while submerged in the water. If the plant looks wilted at this point, allow it to sit in the water for an hour before planting.

Now your plant is ready to pot!

STEP 3: When potting the plant, choose a potting soil and place some in the container(About half full of soil).

STEP 4: Place the plant in the soil, and put more soil around the roots of the plant, until the plant is potted.

STEP 5:Now water and place the plant in a location that is NOT full sun, and not partial sun, and not high output grow lights.  High lighting can and probably will burn the plant foliage. The plants have been in the dark for a few days and need a week or two to adjust to intense lighting. Make sure to soak the soil until it drains out the bottom of the container, even on cacti and succulents! This ensures the roots have access to water to recover from shipping.

Know your plant, research its needs and find the best conditions to grow your plant. We cannot control how you care for the plants you purchase, so once the plant is unpackaged, we do not guarantee they will live in your growing conditions. That is up to you to keep them growing and thriving. That is after all, what this hobby is about!

NOTE: Pond plants, aquarium plants, and some tropical plants are shipped in a bigger bag with a rubber band sealing the bag. To remove these plants, simply cut the bag open, or if the rubber band is on a folded bag edge just grab the bag under the rubber band and one end of the bag, and pull. The rubber band will pop off, then follow steps #2 through 5.

To further ensure your plants are thriving in their new home. please research the plants and their needs. Wait a week to fertilize plants if using a water soluble fertilizer.
